Your place / A few practical details

Storage & privacy

Wonko’s first version is a personal collection that lives in your browser. Here’s what that means in practice.

Where your things live

ONE stores notes as versioned text documents and uploaded files as binary content with a versioned catalog on this device. Links and people use a separate browser collection. Earlier Wonko notes and files can be explicitly moved into ONE from the app; the original records are preserved after verification. The app doesn’t send your collection to a remote database. There is no remote account, device sync, or messaging service in this version.

Local storage is not a password-protected vault. Anyone who can use your browser profile may be able to access your collection. Use your device’s access controls. ONE manages its local storage and keys, but this app opens automatically and does not ask you for a vault password. Exported backups are unencrypted.

Keep a way back in

Clearing site data, removing your browser profile, using private browsing, or a browser storage cleanup can remove your collection. Browser storage has limits, and files count toward those limits. Export a backup regularly from the app’s settings. Backups include your content and files, so keep them somewhere you trust.

The preview is separate

The interactive preview on the homepage uses sample content in memory. Edits in the preview do not touch your personal collection and disappear when the preview reloads.

What happens when you visit

Cloudflare Pages serves the website and app. Loading them sends normal web requests, including network information such as your IP address, to the hosting provider. Wonko includes no analytics scripts, advertising scripts, remote fonts, or third-party embeds. Appearance preferences are saved in local storage.

When you choose to open a saved link, you leave Wonko and visit that website. Its own practices apply. Wonko does not fetch saved websites in the background.

Taking your collection with you

You can export a JSON backup and import it into another Wonko browser. Import keeps existing documents and adds missing ones. Links and people merge by date. Each item is saved separately; if import stops, completed items remain saved and the import can be retried. Import does not remove records absent from the backup. You can also bring in browser bookmarks from an HTML export.
